Cyclist Recommended to Keep Their Vehicle Secure

David Cameron, the victim of bicycle theft suggested that consumers should be careful about the safety of their vehicle in the best possible manner.

Sainsbury's Home Insurance, states that following the stealing of Conservative party leader's bicycle it is important for Brits to take care of the security of their vehicle when they are out.

According to the research conducted by a firm, over the last four and half years the majority of the claims are getting for such thefts after the security of the bikes outside the home. Between 2004 and 2005 around 84% of all claims recorded after the occurrence of cycle crime.

Sainsbury's proposed the people to take insurance through policy or adding it to home contents cover. He also added, noting a bicycle's make, model and frame number as well as colored photograph of the vehicle is advisable to procure as it may help the police to return the stolen vehicle to its owner effectively.

According to the victim of bicycle theft Mr. Cameron it is difficult to secure your bicycle even at home as his bicycle was stolen inside the home. It was recorded that 16% of claims for bicycle theft since the start of 2004 for the item stolen from inside the home.

Sainsbury's also recommended consumers to place their bicycle in a shed or garage and doors should be locked properly.


Neil Laird, manager for Sainsbury's Home Insurance, said: "David Cameron is not the only victim, it was recorded that 1,208 bicycles are stolen in Britain every day. These are stolen more because it is relatively easy to steal and re-sell. So, consumers should start considering the importance of the security of their vehicles at home and outside, as well.
