Protect your possession if you own a bike

With the ongoing National Bike Week, bike owners have been advised to take special care of their bike owing to increased instances of bike thefts.

Halifax, the leading insurance provider in the UK conducted a study which said that one bike was stolen every 65 seconds in the UK. Most of these thefts happen in London which seems to be the hotspot. Therefore to avoid such a monetary loss, the company has advised the bike-owners to take up precautions. It costs a lot for the bike-owner to get the bike replaced by the insurer which comes out to be an average of 337 pounds. However, if you have encountered such a happening, then the funds which are required to get back on the road on a bike can be handled by borrowing a personal loan.

To protect their bike, the owners should take even minor precautions so that they do not lose their bike in any case. They should make use of the bike racks which are made available. Also, locking the bike should not be avoided by the biker even when he just has to cross the road. Also, locking the bike and keeping it should be done in a place which is in complete view of the public and is well-lit. This will impair the thief from taking out the bike quickly. When not in use, the bikes should be kept indoors so that they are not at risk. According to Halifax, the thieves will not back off from taking a chance even when the owner is close by when they see that the bike is unlocked.

The group has suggested the bike-owners to upgrade their locks from the cable lock to the steel U-lock which is less prone to thefts. Anti-pry devices which curtail the thief from taking the bicycle away from the place of security is also an added prevention measure. Also, the consumers are suggested to make use of the agencies of bike ownership so that they can read your postcodes which you mark with the UV pen and the bike can be returned to you in case of theft.

David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax says, “It is shocking to see the increasing rates of bike thefts. For health benefits, we spend money in buying a bike. Therefore adequate measures should be taken to keep them secure as well when you are outdoors or even in your home.”

Those people who want to participate in the National Bike Week but do not have a bike can take up a personal loan. This will help them get a bike which will benefit their health as well as reduce their carbon footprint. The money will provide for the bike as well as the security devices that you want to use for its protection.

Outside of London, Bristol and Reading are the two places which are seen to be the places of maximum cycle thefts. So the residents of these places are suggested to take extra care. Also, Gloucester, Oxford and North Wales are seen to be facing this problem.

People have also been suggested to take care of the other equipments of sports which are kept at their homes. These all together hold a value of 1,132 pounds on an average and can cause a setback if they are stolen.
