Surge in credit card complaints reported

A recent report has shown that the number of complaints sent to the Financial Ombudsman Service in relation to credit cards has risen greatly in the past year.

The FOS has stated that the last year was one of the most uneasy one for the credit card users as there were numerous problems that they facing. The report said that a manifold increase in the number of complaints had shocked the authorities and put the services of credit card providers under question. An official from the Financial Ombudsman Service said, "Since the Ombudsman was established, this financial year 2007-08 was recorded with the maximum number of new complaints that were made against credit card companies."

The main reason which is being cited for these complaints over credit cards is the tactics that were used by the card providers in order to extract more money out of the consumers. Also, there have been complaints which concern penalty fees and default charges which were charged on the consumers when they failed to make payments or were late in repayments, faulty billing the reason for it. All these "cheeky" ways of the credit card companies have given some real troubles to the people who use credit cards.

Many mistakes and faulty decisions have been taken by the credit card companies which in turn have troubled the consumers to a great extent. These problems include an informed hike in the interest rate of credit cards. For some consumers, their credit limits were cut down without any information or any defaults being made from their side. Some of consumers even faced so much troubles that were caused by sudden withdrawal of services of the credit card without notification and that too when the consumers did not have any record of missed or even late repayments. The Financial Ombudsman Services have taken this in a very serious way and will put a vigil on the companies which are frequent with similar complaints which are unjustified.

People, in the last year, are already burdened a lot. This can be attributed to the rising cost of the basic services, food, fuel and energy as well. Already, the credit crunch has taken a toll on the spending power of the people. Added problems and complaints of the credit cards can be avoided by the people if they switch to low rate personal loans so as to manage their expenses, rather than paying high interest rates for credit cards. If these expenses have created debts for the consumers, they can go ahead and obtain debt consolidation loan to remove the hassle.
