To Insure Homes Stricter Planning Laws Are Mandatory

According to Association of British Insurers, stricter planning laws must be enforced or are compulsory otherwise millions of homes could be uninsurable.

The insurance trade body warned that Government is planning to build 30% of the 3 million new homes by 2020 that would be on a flood plain.

Despite the advice given by Environment agency that it would be a risk from flooding, 13 major developments have been approved over the last 12 months alone.

According to ABI, unless and until stricter planning controls are going to introduce, an increasing number of homes will become unsaleable, uninsurable and inhabitable.

The ABI's assistant director of property, Justin Jacobs, said the Government's housing plans are in danger till the time we succeed in reducing the risk of flood.

The ABI said despite of being warned by the Environment Agency about risk of flood the planning on new developments is still permitted.

The ABI added that unless the risk of flood was taken into consideration for new developments, the cost of insuring the homes is likely to increase and some homeowners finding difficulty to obtain it as they can't afford it at higher cost.

Many times the ABI has appealed for stronger planning controls and even also requested the government to develop a 25 years strategy plan to manage the growing risk of flood in UK. They suppose to make an investment program that reflects climate change and the risk of flooding from rivers, the sea and drainage system.

ABI revealed that, last summer's floods cased the industry in excess of £3 billion and half of the 15,000 households are now able to return their respective homes from temporary accommodation, while 75% of people are expected to return their homes by next month.

Summary

Home stricter planning laws should be enforced to make the homes and properties insured. Government should maintain some strategy plans to reduce the danger of flood from the lives of UK people.
